26/02/14 : THE BOILING MUD

Jour 21, Kerozen Creek - Rotorua (about 25km)

We leave the farm to head for Rotorua city. Today is going to be a short ride through wide pines forest. We arrive in Rotorua riding on a special mountain bike track. This way make us cross a small wood looking like a tiny rainforest. There, we meet a New Zealander doing the ride like we do. He makes us visiting with more details the wood ; bringing us in some particular place such as "The boiling muds area". It's quite impressive how this mud is boiling.

Afterwards, we book a night in a campground, about 2km away from downtown Rotorua. Then we visit the city which is marked out by his pretty wide lake. The population of Rotorua is made of 65000 people which makes it one of the biggest city in New Zealand. By the way, there is even an airport in its outskirt.
Otherwise, the city itself is not really beautiful. Plus, there is a constant smell of sulfur spreading over the city which make the stroll not very pleasant. This is due to a strong geo thermal activity located under the city and all around.
