08/02/14 : THE CHAIN ISSUE

Day 3, Wairau Valley – St Arnaud ( about 65km)

On the road again but this time with a stunning weather, under a beautiful and hot sunshine. Today, our goal is to reach St Arnaud because we got late in our trip since we had this flat tyre. Moreover, the rain haven't helped us these past two days. Luckily, we get a beautiful weather today. The further we are getting in the South, the more we see mountains marking themselves through this deep blue sky.
Before arriving in St Arnaud, we have to face a long and big 6km steep. All of a sudden, during this crossing, my chain breaks up. What a pity ! especially at that moment, where we have to face a long and hard steep. Anyway, we have to go on, it’s no use to look back. We have to face this problem and walk out this steep til we arrive in St Arnaud. A few minutes afterwards. we decide to proceed differently. I get a rope out of my bag and with this one we attach both bike ( Kent and mine) each other. Kent braces himself and succeed on pulling me til St Arnaud.
St Arnaud is a really little town. It looks like there is only tourist here. No bikes shop around, only backpackers, motels and restaurants. Here we are, stranded in a place we don’t even know. What are we going to do ?
We decide to postpone this problem for tomorrow. Now, we find a campground to sleep. The one we choose is right next to a beautiful lake, surrounded by green mountains. His name is Rotoiti Lake and it looks like a fjord.
